Come on, now. This does NOT look like spring. I am looking out my windows, and I definitely see WHITE. Lots of WHITE! Just yesterday, the back 40 (or should I say, 55) was a nice shade of green-brown. Yep, those greens were squeeeeeeeeeeing up through the MUD. Not today. Well, I must remember that I live in upstate NY. Does anyone remember the Mother's Day when it snowed?! My lovely daughters were just 5 and 7, all ready to get decked out in their finery to enjoy a special brunch with mom. Forget about it. Put on your boots! Put on your coats. We can still party, but not in THOSE dresses and special shoes. Ah well.
So, today is an 'ah well' day.
I was getting geared up for getting dirty. This weekend, the soil surface actually presented itself. The winter rye we planted as green cover was THERE. I saw it! No more. There is a blanket of white as far as I can see.
The freezer exchange took place this weekend. There is the Big Freezer for when the harvest comes in, and there is the Mini-me Freezer when things are thinning out and we want to save energy. A bit of sadness comes over me to have to acknowledge that there are not enough beans, and broccoli, and chard, and beets, and zucchini, and carrots, and, (careful, if you are vegetarian...) chicken to keep the Big Guy going. I moved it all into the Mini-Me freezer this weekend. Saving a buck is too big a draw.
Count down begins. How many more bags-o-beans? How many more potatoes in the bin? Are there any garlics left? Oh me, oh my. Time to start some seedlings. Time to dive into the dirt.
Soon. Soooooooooooooooooooon!
